Five simple tips to help keep your teeth healthy
Everyone wants to have healthy teeth. And for that, it is crucial to take care of tooth cleanliness and gum health, according to dentist Navin Hosla.
Five tips to keep your teeth and gums healthy
Brush your teeth twice a day
Brushing your teeth twice a day is the key to protecting your teeth and gums and preventing potential issues such as cavities and gum diseases.
"Using a soft bristle toothbrush, gently brush your teeth on all sides and opt for fluoride toothpaste," advises Navin.
Use dental floss daily
The use of dental floss is not a part of everyday life for many people, but it helps reduce the formation of dental plaque and lowers the risk of cavities and gum diseases.
"Flossing at least once a day will help to keep your teeth and gums strong, as well as help maintain fresh-smelling breath," says the doctor.
Reduce sugar consumption
Sugar is one of the main causes of cavities, so cutting down on the consumption of sweet products and drinks will help reduce the occurrence of cavities in the mouth and contribute to a healthier lifestyle overall. Replace sugary drinks and gradually start consuming more water.
Quit smoking
Smoking can affect gum health and increase the likelihood of tooth loss. Tobacco reduces the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream, meaning if your gums are not in good condition, they won't heal as quickly. In smokers, gum diseases develop much faster than in non-smokers.
Use therapeutic mouthwash
Using therapeutic mouthwash instead of cosmetic mouthwash can bring many benefits to oral hygiene. Using mouthwash after brushing your teeth helps clean areas that the brush may not have reached, prevents gum diseases, reduces the formation of tartar and dental plaque, and helps maintain fresh breath for a longer time.
