Summer has only just begun officially, but some countries have been suffering from heat waves for at least several months. In some places, there have even been deaths due to the heat and high temperatures. Not only people but also animals suffer from such weather conditions.

Disaster in India

An abnormal heat wave hit India in the spring. May was particularly severe when temperatures in the capital Delhi and the neighboring state of Rajasthan exceeded a record 50 degrees Celsius.

Last week, during the country's elections, people fainted from the heat in lines at polling stations and were hospitalized while working as election officials.

According to the Indian Ministry of Health, heat stroke was diagnosed in nearly 25,000 people. At least 56 fatalities were reported (46 of them in May).

In several cities, schools were even closed due to such weather conditions.

Ultra-high temperatures harm not only people but also animals and birds. With this in mind, the environmental organization Wildlife SOS organized a rescue operation to protect hundreds of birds, reptiles, and mammals from the Delhi Zoo from the heat.

At the same time, according to the Indian Meteorological Department, rain and thunderstorms are likely in several places in the northwest of the country until June 7, 2024, as the so-called Western Disturbance approaches.

This is an extratropical storm that originates in the Mediterranean region and brings sudden winter rains to the northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent, which can spread eastward to the northern parts of Bangladesh and southeastern Nepal.

“Over the next 4-5 days, heat with reduced intensity may be observed in some areas of northwestern and eastern India,” the experts added.

Record temperatures in other countries of the world

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the so-called meteorological winter in the northern hemisphere and summer in the southern hemisphere end at the end of February.

At the same time, it is clarified that February 2024 ended with an extreme heat wave in the southern hemisphere and high temperatures that are atypical for the northern hemisphere during this period.

The Center for Climate Prediction added that too dry and hot conditions are also observed in the northern part of Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Panama).

In addition, meteorologists warn of an abnormal heat wave in Northern Cyprus in the coming days. It is specified that the air temperature there may reach 41 degrees Celsius.

Finally, record-high temperatures may also be recorded in certain regions of Kuwait and Iraq.

So, when planning any trip, be sure to check the weather forecast in the location you are going to. This will save both money and health.
