First-ever quarterfinals! Ukraine stuns Germany at women's Euro beach volleyball

On the sixth day of the 2025 European Beach Volleyball Championship, the Ukrainian duo of Tetiana Lazarenko and Maryna Hladun claimed a historic victory, taking the Ukrainian women's national team to the quarterfinals of the continental tournament for the first time ever. Here are the match results.
Road to the quarterfinals
In the round of 16, Lazarenko and Hladun faced the German pair Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann, who are ranked 54th in the world.
The Ukrainians started the match poorly, losing the first set 16–21. In the second set, however, the Ukrainian duo managed to turn the tide, 21–19.
In the decisive set, the Ukrainians showed grit, coming back from 2–5 down to win 15–10.
This triumph marks the best result ever for the Ukrainian women's beach volleyball team at the European Championships. Previously, no Ukrainian women’s team had made it past the round of 16.
Ukrainian team's other results
A total of three Ukrainian women's pairs are competing at Euro-2025. In addition to Lazarenko and Hladun, the duo of Valentyna Davydova and Angelina Khmil also advanced to the playoff stage.
In the round of 16, they are set to face titled opponents, two-time European champions Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova from Latvia. The match is scheduled for August 1.
When Ukraine plays in the quarterfinals
In the quarterfinals, Lazarenko and Hladun will take on the Dutch pair of Mila Keunen and Raïsa Schoon.
The match will take place on Friday, August 1.
