Fires and damaged buildings: Consequences of Shahed drones overnight strike on southern Ukraine
Civilian and industrial infrastructure facilities in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and the Vinnytsia region were damaged over a Russian overnight attack using kamikaze drones. There is no information about any civilian casualties, according to South Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Military officials note that the drone air attack lasted over 5 hours.
With the efforts of air defense forces, 10 Shahed drones were successfully shot down in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Vinnytsia regions.
Consequences
- In Odesa, the occupiers targeted civilian infrastructure. The Shahed strike damaged an unfinished high-rise building, shattering windows. Damage to an educational building was also recorded, with the roof punctured and windows shattered.
Residents of Odesa were unharmed.
- In Mykolaiv, Russian invaders again struck civilian infrastructure. As a result of the attack, residential buildings, an industrial facility, and a sports and recreation complex were damaged.
A fire also broke out, which emergency services promptly extinguished.
No information about casualties was reported.
- In the Vinnytsia region, debris from downed enemy drones caused a fire at one of the infrastructure sites. The fire has been successfully contained, with ongoing firefighting efforts.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
Overnight Shahed attack
On February 7-8 overnight, air raid sirens were sounded in several regions of Ukraine over another Russian aerial attack using Shahed drones.
During the night, several explosions were reported in Odesa, where air defense operations were ongoing. Explosions were also reported in Mykolaiv.
As reported by the Air Force Command in the morning, air defense forces successfully neutralized 11 out of 17 Shahed kamikaze drones launched by Russian invaders across Ukraine that night.
