Finland decides to close reopened for one day border crossings with Russia
The Finnish government will today, on December 14, decide to close open border crossings with Russia, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Finland, Mari Rantanen.
She stated that the government would announce the border crossing restrictions at 18:15. The government will discuss the border crossing limitations at an extraordinary meeting of the State Council.
At the same time, about 50 asylum seekers, whose nationality is unknown, have already arrived at the Niirala border crossing point. Additionally, 21 asylum seekers have arrived at the Vaalimaa border crossing point.
About an hour ago, the total number of those who crossed the border was approximately 1300 people. 784 individuals left the border to Russia, while 524 entered Finland from Russia.
Closure of borders with Russia
On November 30, Finland decided to close all border crossing points with Russia. This decision was made in response to a large number of illegal migrants attempting to enter Finland from the Russian territory.
On Tuesday, the Finnish government decided to reopen two border crossing points with Russia.
