The Finnish Criminal Police confiscated the tanker Eagle S. A technical investigation will be conducted, reports Yle.

The tanker suspected of damaging the Estlink 2 subsea power cable will be moved to the port of Porvoo today under the escort of the Finnish authorities.

The transportation operation is led by the Helsinki Police Department with the support of the Border Guard.

A technical investigation will be carried out on the vessel to determine whether the tanker caused damage to the electrical cable. According to the police, the new location is more suitable for the investigation.

Damage to cables in the Gulf of Finland

On December 25, underwater communication cables between Estonia and Finland were damaged.

Arto Pahkin, a representative of the Finnish electricity transmission system operator Fingrid, said that two vessels were in the area where the cables run at the time of the breakdown.

Later, it became known that the Finnish authorities were investigating the case of an oil tanker, which is probably part of Russia's shadow fleet.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb called on the world to counteract the risks posed by the vessels of the Russian shadow fleet.

Yesterday, it became known that by stopping the Russian shadow tanker, Finland prevented several more serious sabotage incidents. The vessel could have continued to damage underwater communications.
