Finland allocates over €20 million for education reform in Ukraine
Finland has allocated 20 million euros to support education reform in Ukraine, as well as 500,000 euros for school nutrition reform. This initiative was presented at the European Regional School Feeding Forum in Kyiv by Ville Tavio, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of Finland.
According to the ministry, from 2025 to 2028, Finland intends to support Ukraine's education sector by allocating significant funds to reform general secondary education. This project has been developed in close cooperation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, as well as the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Finnish National Agency for Education.
The main goal of the program will be to modernize the school system, adapt educational processes to modern standards, and provide comprehensive support to students.
An important aspect of the reform will be strengthening the social protection of schoolchildren and implementing psychosocial assistance programs, which is especially important in the context of the war and the challenges faced by young people in Ukraine.
In addition, Finland will allocate 500,000 euros to support the school feeding program in 2024, implemented by the World Food Program.
Education reform in Ukraine
Starting from 2027, Ukrainian schoolchildren will study at school for 12 years. The first graduation of students who have completed a full 12-year education is scheduled for 2030.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has planned to launch the pilot phase of the reform in September 2025. This stage will last until July 2027. During this time, educational institutions will be selected to test different models of implementing changes to the educational process.
