Russian forces have stepped up flanking maneuvers around Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, attempting to push Ukrainian units out of the southern part of the city, reports Viktor Trehubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Grouping (UOS), during a national telethon live broadcast.

According to the military, the enemy is intensifying flanking maneuvers around Vovchansk.

"Essentially, these are renewed attempts to bypass Vovchansk, outflank the Ukrainian troops stationed in the southern part by the river, and seize settlements beyond them," Trehubov said.

He added that the attacks are being carried out from several directions.

"Active attacks are underway, on one side from Starytsia and Hrafske, and on the other, attempts to bypass Vovchansk itself," he noted.

The Head of the Communications Department emphasized that the main goal of these maneuvers is to push Ukrainian units out of the city.

"These are attempts to force Ukrainians to retreat from the remaining parts of the city simply through flanking maneuvers," Trehubov explained.

He also reported that fighting continues directly on the outskirts of Vovchansk, particularly in the Vovchanski Khutory area, where the enemy is constantly replenishing its forces.

"They are continuously rotating and reinforcing… the distance to the border is very short, which allows for constant resupply and rotations. They do not face a major infantry shortage," the UOS representative clarified.

As a result, the situation in the southern part of Vovchansk remains tense, while Ukrainian troops continue to hold their positions, resisting the enemy’s flanking maneuvers.

Fighting in the Vovchansk area

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have attempted to exploit their numerical advantage and break through the Defense Forces’ positions in the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction. The enemy carried out offensive actions in Vovchansk, as well as in the directions of Hrafske, Vovchanski Khutory, and Zybyne.

Earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the situation in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region, remains stable, but Russian forces are trying to bypass the city and expand the area under their control.
