Fierce clashes rage, yet Chasiv Yar held by Armed Forces: Chief Commander
The town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, despite fierce battles to the east of the town, remains under the control of Ukrainian forces, according to the Telegram channel of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to him, the most intense battles today are taking place in the areas of Pervomaiske and Vodiane, as well as to the east of Chasiv Yar, where the enemy is attempting to break through our troops' defense.
"Chasiv Yar remains under our control, all attempts by the enemy to break through to the settlement have failed," the general stated.
Where the situation is most complex
Syrskyi noted that the situation is particularly complex:
- on the Bakhmut direction in the areas east of Chasiv Yar and Klishchiivka;
- on Avdiivka direction - in the areas of Berdychi, Orlivka, Vodiane, Pervomaisk;
- on Novopavlivka direction - in the area of Novomykhailivka.
Situation in the Chasiv Yar area
At the end of February 2024, it was reported that Russian forces attempted an advance on the Chasiv Yar - Khromovo - Bakhmut line. The enemy retreated due to the loss of a large amount of armored vehicles. At the moment, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, it is unlikely that Chasiv Yar is threatened with occupation or encirclement in the near future.
In early January 2024, occupiers launched an offensive in the Bakhmut and Bohdanivka areas, indicating, according to experts, their intention to capture the settlement of Chasiv Yar.
By mid-January, it became known that Russia had deployed 80,000 troops to the Bakhmut area. However, as experts suggested, it is unlikely that the occupiers will strike with all these forces at Chasiv Yar, but this may be preparation for an attack on Sloviansk and Kramatorsk from three directions.
At the end of December 2023, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russian occupiers continue to concentrate their forces in the Bakhmut and Klishchiivka areas. Their goal is clear - an offensive on Chasiv Yar.
