Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico faces the threat of impeachment as the opposition plans to move a motion of no confidence, informs Aktuality.sk.

According to the outlet, the motion of no confidence is being initiated by the united opposition, which includes Progressive Slovakia, the Republic Movement, the Christian Democratic Movement, and Freedom and Solidarity parties.

"Fico has abandoned Slovakia. Instead of being at home and addressing the issues that concern people, he travels around the world, bows to dictators, and indulges in luxury somewhere in Vietnam. This insults our neighbors and partners. He has resigned from the governance that should be happening here in Slovakia," stated Michal Šimečka, leader of the strongest opposition movement, Progressive Slovakia.

It is noted that Fico's recent visit to Moscow is not the sole reason for the motion of no confidence. The opposition explained that the Prime Minister's foreign trips and public statements have generally distorted Slovakia's foreign policy direction.

Fico's visit to Moscow

Recently, Fico visited Moscow, where he met with Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, they discussed Ukraine's decision to stop the transit of Russian gas starting January 1, 2025, as well as exchanged views on Russia's war in Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on the trip, stated that the main goal of the Slovak Prime Minister's visit appeared to be fostering cooperation with Russia.
