Many women strive to have slender legs and toned buttocks, and this is an absolutely normal desire. However, it is worth remembering that beauty and health are not always the same thing, states trainer and nutritionist Viktor Mandziak.

Fat is not always evil

Fat in the body has important functions. It is a source of energy, protects internal organs, and helps regulate body temperature. The problem arises when there is too much fat. However, not all fat is the same.

Types of fat and their impact on health

There are two main types of fat: subcutaneous and visceral. Visceral fat, which accumulates around the abdominal organs, is more dangerous to health than subcutaneous fat. It is the latter that is associated with the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other problems.

Subcutaneous fat, especially that which is located on the hips and buttocks, is considered less harmful.

Hormones and body fat

The distribution of fat in the body is influenced by hormones such as adrenaline and insulin. Visceral fat is more sensitive to adrenaline, while subcutaneous fat is more sensitive to insulin.

Adipose tissue also produces hormones called adipokines. Some of them, such as adiponectin, are beneficial for health because they improve insulin sensitivity and protect against atherosclerosis. Subcutaneous fat, especially in the thighs and buttocks, contributes to the production of adiponectin.

Estrogen and the female figure

High levels of estrogen in the female body contribute to the accumulation of fat on the hips and buttocks. This is because estrogen prepares the body for pregnancy and breastfeeding by creating energy reserves.

Fat on the thighs and buttocks is not always bad. It is important to monitor the total amount of fat in the body and remember that subcutaneous fat, especially in women, can even be beneficial for health. The key is to lead a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced diet.
