Changes in facial color can signal serious health problems. A doctor has outlined what not to ignore and when to seek immediate help, according to The Mirror.

Greenish tint

Dr. Niamh McMillan explained that a greenish tint of the face might be linked to nausea.

In rarer cases, a bluish-gray-green hue could indicate reduced oxygen levels and be associated with cyanosis, a condition that may arise from breathing difficulties or certain heart and lung diseases.

Pale skin

An unusually pale complexion could point to anemia, a condition where the body doesn’t produce enough red blood cells to carry oxygen effectively.

This is often accompanied by symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, and fainting. Sudden paleness may also be related to low blood pressure, dehydration, or shock. While it can sometimes be temporary, persistent cases should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Yellowish tint

A yellowish hue to the face or eyes may signal jaundice, which could indicate problems with the liver or bile ducts. Conditions like hepatitis, gallstones, or certain medications can be underlying causes.

Additional symptoms of jaundice include dark urine, pale stools, and itching. If these signs appear, it is important to consult a doctor promptly, as they may point to a serious condition.

Red face

Facial redness might be the body’s natural reaction to heat, exercise, or emotions like embarrassment.

However, persistent redness could suggest skin conditions such as rosacea or even high blood pressure. If redness occurs suddenly with symptoms like sweating, a racing heartbeat, or shortness of breath, it could indicate carcinoid syndrome, a condition requiring urgent medical attention.
