F1 may return to surprising destination in 2026 - Find out where

Formula 1 may unexpectedly return to Turkey as early as 2026. Istanbul Park is preparing to host a race again, reports Motorsport.
Turkey wants to return to Formula 1
The organizers of the Turkish Grand Prix have declared their readiness to host a Formula 1 race in 2026, should another circuit drop off the calendar.
The country has received full support from the government and is ready to hold a Grand Prix at the Istanbul Park circuit.
The track recently came under the management of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED).
Its president, Eren Uclertopragi, stated that Turkey is not seeking a one-time replacement, but rather a permanent spot on the Formula 1 calendar.
"Following our appointment by the government as the federation a few months ago, we have been in intensive discussions with F1 and FIA management. There is a strong commitment from the government to bring Turkey back into the Formula 1 calendar with a permanent and long-term agreement," said Uclertopragi.
The last time Turkey hosted a Formula 1 race was in 2020 and 2021, when it temporarily replaced other events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, other international racing series are reportedly in talks with Turkey, expressing interest in holding races at Istanbul Park.
Location advantages
The Turkish circuit is appealing not only because of its quality but also due to its advantageous location. Istanbul is near countries with a strong interest in motorsports.
"We do not have the perspective of competing with any other country. Turkey still has a very popular and unique track, a population of 85 million, great interest in the sport among young people, a market where more than 1.2 million cars are sold annually, factories or major distributors of most F1 car brands located here, and a geopolitical position," stated the TOSFED president.
According to him, September is the ideal month for the Turkish Grand Prix because it is convenient for both spectators and logistics, especially if the race takes place near the Baku round.
