Explosions shake occupied Melitopol as Hydromash factory burns

A large fire broke out in occupied Melitopol on Sunday, June 8. The Hydromash plant is on fire, according to the local outlet RIA Pivden.
Smoke was spotted near the Hydromash plant on the morning of June 8.
According to online reports, thick smoke can be seen from nearly every district of the city. Explosions have also been reported in the area of the plant. Firefighters are working at the scene.
Visibility has worsened on the bridge leading to Novyi Melitopol, located near the plant. As a result, the bridge has been closed, and drivers are being redirected through the Aviamistechko area.
According to online reports, Russian occupation forces have turned the Hydromash plant into a repair and military base.
What is known about Hydromash
The Hydromash plant in Melitopol is a civilian enterprise that manufactures hydraulic equipment and pumps for various industrial sectors.
However, after the city was occupied, Russian forces repurposed the facility for military infrastructure.
As a reminder, explosions have been reported near the Hydromash plant on multiple occasions. Back in early 2023, according to partisan sources, Russian troops set up a warehouse there to store ammunition.
