In the early hours of July 18, explosions were heard in Russia’s Moscow region and Oryol region. Russians are reporting an attack by unidentified drones, according to Russian channels.

According to the SHOT channel, explosions were heard in the Istra municipal district and near the town of Zvenigorod (Moscow region). Eyewitnesses reported hearing a buzzing sound in the sky followed by loud blasts. No information on casualties or damage has been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated overnight that air defense systems allegedly shot down two drones headed toward the Russian capital. He said emergency crews were working at the sites where debris fell.

At Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, authorities have activated the Kover (Carpet) plan. As of now:

  • 8 outbound flights have been delayed (to Samarkand, Yerevan, Baku, Astana, Ufa, Antalya, Bodrum, and Dalaman);

  • 20 inbound flights are delayed;

  • 1 flight has been canceled.

SHOT also reported that a series of explosions was heard in the Oryol region. Residents said at least four blasts were heard in the suburbs of Oryol, and a flash was seen near the town of Znamianka, about 2 km from the city.

Preliminary reports suggest that air defense systems were activated, though no official statements have been issued.
