On July 12, explosions rocked Mariupol. It is possible that the strikes occurred near the airport, according to the Mariupol city council.

"Things are loud in Mariupol! Local sources report air defense operations. According to Mariupol residents, explosions are audible in the Primorsky district. A column of smoke has risen along Fleet Street. There are also reports of explosions heard outside the city," the statement said.

According to preliminary information, the strikes may have occurred near the airport.

"It is reported that recently, Vice Premier of the Russian government Marat Khusnullin and the leader of the so-called DNR Denis Pushilin were there. Occupation sources claim the supposed interception of 5 HIMARS missiles. But judging by the smoke, the reality is quite different," added the city council.

Explosions in Mariupol

Russian forces occupied the city of Mariupol in the Donetsk region in February 2022. Since then, the occupiers have turned the port into a military base.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces continue to target military facilities within the city and the Mariupol district. In June, explosions were also reported in Mariupol, with occupiers claiming ballistic activity towards the city and air defense operations."
