The explosions in Odesa took place on Friday, May 23. Southern and eastern Ukraine were warned of a ballistic missile threat, according to the Ukrainian Air Force and local media.

The air alert was announced in eastern, southern, and central Ukraine after 2 p.m. Kyiv time.

"Threat of Russian ballistic missile use from the south," the Ukrainian Air Force warned.

Ukrainian military also urged residents of Odesa to take shelter. Amid these messages, several explosions were heard in Odesa.

Russian drone attack on Odesa

In the morning of May 23, Russian drones attacked the Odesa region. According to the Odesa Regional Military Administration, the attack damaged a private house in the suburbs of Odesa and injured a man.

Later, the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office clarified that 2 people were injured in the Russian attack - a 46-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman - and were hospitalized.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of May 23, Russia launched 175 drones and attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile.

Ukrainian air defense forces neutralized 150 Russian drones in the east, west, north, south, and center of Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense shot down 91 Russian drones, and another 59 were locally lost/suppressed by electronic warfare.
