Explosions were heard in Kyiv overnight on June 29 amid a Russian attack using Shahed-type strike drones. Air defense systems are active, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

"In Kyiv’s Obolon district, air defense forces are engaging Russian drones. Please remain in shelters," Klitschko reported.

Shortly before that, the mayor had warned that air defense systems were also operating near the Ukrainian capital, noting that Russian drones were heading toward Kyiv.

Russian attack on Ukraine – June 29

Russian forces launched drones on the evening of June 28. Air raid alerts were declared in nearly all regions of Ukraine. By midnight, alerts were active in areas including Rivne and Khmelnytskyi.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned of a missile threat targeting Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Sumy, and other cities.

Later, authorities reported that in addition to the drone attack, Russian forces had launched strategic Tu-95MS bombers. Three aircraft took off from the Olenya airfield.
