In the early hours of July 6, explosions were heard in Kharkiv as the city came under attack by Russian strike drones, according to the channels of Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov.

"At least one explosion in the city. Preliminary reports indicate a Shahed drone. We are clarifying the details. Several more drones are heading toward the city. Please stay safe," Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote at 01:07.

At the same time, Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that Russian forces were striking Kharkiv using drones.

At 01:15 AM Kyiv time, two more explosions were heard in Kharkiv in the last few minutes.

"Russia has carried out at least three strikes on the city of Kharkiv. Information about casualties and the consequences is being verified," Syniehubov confirmed.

The regional governor reported that, according to preliminary information, drone strikes were recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi districts of the city. Emergency services have been dispatched to inspect the sites.

"Fortunately, according to preliminary data, there are no casualties from the three strikes. However, another group of hostile combat drones is approaching Kharkiv. Stay safe," the city’s mayor reported.

As of 01:14 AM Kyiv time, air raid sirens remain active in the following regions: Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk.

Attacks on Kharkiv

Russian forces regularly target Kharkiv with drones and missiles. For example, on the night of July 2, they struck the city’s Novobavarskyi district. The attack caused fires at vehicle service boxes (STOs) and resulted in other damage.

It was also reported that June marked an all-time monthly record for the number of aerial attacks on Kharkiv since the start of the full-scale war.
