An explosion rocked the Zavolzhye Engine Factory (ZMZ) in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. A large fire broke out at the site, and at least one person was injured, according to Russian Telegram channels.

According to SHOT, at around 11:00 p.m. Kyiv time, a powerful explosion occurred at the Zavolzhye Engine Factory, with flames clearly visible.

Preliminary reports indicate that a tanker truck exploded on the plant grounds, causing the fire to spread to a production workshop. The fire is estimated to cover an area of about 75 square meters. There are also reports of at least one injured person.

The Telegram channel reports that one worker was injured in the incident, suffering burns on 10% of his body. Emergency services are on the scene. The exact cause is still unknown.

Later, the Mash channel confirmed that the injured person is a 34-year-old factory worker named Alexey. He sustained burns covering 10% of his body and was taken by medical personnel to the emergency room.

Mash also added that the fire spread to the roof of the workshop, where bearings are produced.

Note that Zavolzhye Engine Factory is a Russian factory that manufactures gasoline and diesel engines for automobiles.

"Locals told SHOT that a truck crashed directly into the workshop with chemicals at ZMZ. Then the flames quickly spread to the roof of the workshop," the new report says.

SHOT also added that the Emergency Ministry workers have reportedly already extinguished the fire over an area of 60 square meters.

Fires in Russia

On Saturday, May 31, a large fire broke out at a factory producing galoshes and rubber footwear in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow. Columns of smoke were visible even in Moscow.

What’s most striking is that the fire occurred just 10 kilometers from the residence of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
