Explosion at Bulgarian military factory triggers ammunition detonation

According to media reports, the incident occurred near the village of Belitsa in the municipality of Tryavna.

Mayor Dencho Minev said there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the explosion and fire. He also said the fire had been brought under control and all employees of the facility had been evacuated by bus.

An operational headquarters was set up at the scene, involving representatives of all law enforcement agencies.

It is also known that ammunition at the warehouse began detonating after a truck caught fire. Secondary explosions are currently being heard there.

Meanwhile, rescuers continue to battle fires that have spread to nearby forested areas. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. The area has been cordoned off and access to outsiders has been prohibited. The road at the junction near the village of Armyankovtsi has also been closed, and a checkpoint has been set up.

Due to smoke and air pollution, authorities urged residents to keep their windows closed, use protective masks and avoid going outside unless necessary.

In connection with the fire, the governor of the Gabrovo region activated the BG-ALERT system. Residents were urged to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and stay away from the scene.

Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said nearby settlements would be evacuated. According to him, the cause of the incident is still being established, although it is likely to be internal in nature.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that an unidentified drone entered Bulgarian airspace on the morning of August 8. It was reported to have entered from Romania.

Later, Bulgaria's Defense Ministry said the drone could have been a Ukrainian Maya decoy.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry responded that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had not directed any means toward Bulgaria.
