The largest countries in Europe are ready to continue supporting Ukraine, even if the United States reduces its assistance. This applies to both military and financial aid, states the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski.

Sikorski held talks with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Spain. Kaja Kallas, the future EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, also took part in the discussions.

During the talks, the participants discussed the future of transatlantic relations, the building of a strong and resilient Europe, continued support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, and the European prospects of Moldova and Georgia.

According to the Polish minister, the foreign ministers agreed that Europe must take more responsibility for its own security, including through a "fairer burden-sharing within NATO."

"We are exploring ways to increase our support for Ukraine. In this context, I am pleased to emphasize the willingness of the largest EU countries to shoulder the burden of military and financial support for Ukraine in light of possible reduced involvement from the United States," Sikorski stated.

Trump to become president

Donald Trump will officially become the President of the United States at the end of January 2025. It remains unclear whether he will continue supplying weapons to Ukraine for defense against Russian aggression.

According to media rumors, Trump aims to bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Specifically, unconfirmed reports suggest his team is considering freezing hostilities along the frontline.

The plan reportedly includes creating a buffer zone where European forces would be stationed.
