European Council calls for urgent bolstering of Ukrainian air defense
Today, there's an urgent call to bolster Ukraine's air defense systems and expedite the delivery of essential military aid, according to the European Council.
The European Council reiterated its steadfast support for Ukraine's sovereignty and independence, condemning the terrorist shelling by the Russian Federation against civilians and critical infrastructure, including recent strikes on the energy sector.
"The European Union and its Member States will intensify the provision of humanitarian and civil protection assistance, including equipment such as power generators and power transformers," the conclusions say.
At the same time, the European Council emphasized the need to urgently provide Ukraine with air defense systems and accelerate the delivery of all necessary military aid, including artillery ammunition and missiles.
According to Deutsche Welle, during discussions with journalists, European Council President Charles Michel said that new arms and ammunition shipments to our troops are a matter of days and weeks, not months.
Ukraine's critical needs
Recently, bolstering air defense and replenishing artillery ammunition have become pressing issues for Ukraine. The situation has been exacerbated by intensified terrorist attacks from the Russian Federation targeting Ukraine's energy sector.
As a result, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that the meeting will take place this Friday, April 19. He added that among the key topics expected to be discussed are Ukraine's air defense and artillery ammunition.
