The European Parliament has adopted a resolution proposing to consider transforming relations with Armenia if it wishes to obtain candidate status, according to the relevant document.

504 Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of adopting the resolution, 4 voted against it, and another 32 abstained.

"The European Parliament considers that should Armenia be interested in applying for candidate status and continuing on its path of sustained reforms consolidating its democracy, this could set the stage for a transformative phase in EU-Armenia relations," the document states.

At the same time, the European Parliament called on EU bodies to support Armenia in expanding its cooperation with the bloc.

Tensions between Armenia and Russia

Relations between Armenia and Russia deteriorated after Azerbaijan managed to gain control over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Meanwhile, Yerevan is strengthening its relations with Western countries and the European Union.

Today, March 13, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that his country is considering the possibility of joining the European Union. He noted that the Armenian people have European aspirations.

At the same time, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested that his country could withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization and outlined a condition.
