EU movement restrictions for Russian diplomats under discussion in Germany Johann Wadephul, German Foreign Minister (Vitalii Nosach, RBC-Ukraine)

Germany has proposed considering concrete measures to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within European Union countries, according to German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, as reported by České noviny.

Following talks with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, Johann Wadephul commented on Prague's initiative to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within the European Union.

According to the German official, it is necessary to examine how such an initiative could be implemented in practical terms, address its legal aspects, and prepare for possible retaliatory measures.

The German Foreign Minister stated that Germany maintains strict security standards for accrediting Russian diplomats.

He also believes that pressure on Russia should now be increased through sanctions targeting its shadow fleet or oil trade.

Proposal against Russian diplomats

Last year, Czechia and seven other countries sent a proposal to EU officials to ban Russian diplomats from freely moving across the bloc.

They argued that Russian diplomats could be engaged in intelligence gathering, propaganda, or even planning acts of sabotage.
