EU country to tighten entry rules for Ukrainians starting September 1

Starting September 1, 2025, Latvia will introduce new entry rules for foreign citizens, including Ukrainians, according to LRT.
In addition to Ukrainians, the new rules will also apply to citizens of Russia, Belarus, Brazil, Switzerland, and countries that are not members of the EU, NATO, or the OECD. What will change:
-
Travelers will be required to submit an online form on a dedicated website 48 hours before entering Latvia. This applies even to transit journeys.
-
The form must include the purpose of travel, length of stay, route, and place of residence. It will also ask for information on service in state structures or participation in elections (by the traveler or close relatives).
-
Only the individual planning to enter Latvia may submit the form personally.
-
No separate permit will be required: confirmation will be sent automatically by email.
-
Failure to complete the form may result in a €2,000 fine and denial of entry.
-
Latvian security services may check the form not only at the border but also inside the country if potential threats are identified.
Who is affected:
-
Citizens of Ukraine (including those with temporary protection status or residence permits in other EU countries).
-
Citizens of Russia and Belarus.
-
Citizens of other countries outside the European Union, NATO, or the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The form must be submitted via eta.gov.lv, available from August 29, 2025. Additional information is provided on the official Latvian government websites.
Polish president vetoes social support for Ukrainians
On August 25, Polish President Karol Nawrocki vetoed a bill passed by the Sejm that would have provided social support for Ukrainian citizens.
He explained that the 800 Plus program and free medical services should only be available to Ukrainians who are officially employed in Poland.
The following day, President Nawrocki submitted a new bill to the Polish parliament.
In addition, since June 1, 2025, new rules for the 800+ program have been in effect for Ukrainians: in order to receive benefits, a child must attend a Polish school or kindergarten, with exceptions only for those who are homeschooled.
