Estonia wants to launch new ammunition production next year
Estonia wants to start producing ammunition as early as the beginning of next year. It is planned to produce ammunition in the military town of Emari no later than the beginning of 2025, reports ERR.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that Estonia wants to start producing ammunition as soon as possible.
“In today's security situation, it is necessary to start producing ammunition in Estonia as soon as possible,” Pevkur said.
The minister added that while Estonia does not have a defense industrial park, it is necessary to look for other ways to speed up the production of ammunition.
The minister noted that Emari has an infrastructure with appropriate safety and reliability requirements.
It is known that in the near future, the State Center for Defense Investment (RKIK) will organize a tender, the winner of which will receive an area of about 8900 square meters with seven warehouses in the Emari military town for three years.
The facility is to be used for the production of ammunition and explosives.
Last year, Estonia joined the German framework contract for ammunition for Ukraine.
