Estonia's leading party proposes to deprive Russians of right to vote in local elections
The member of the parliamentary faction, Partel-Peeter Pere, stated that the Reform Party of Estonia will soon present a bill to parliament that would allow foreigners to be deprived of the right to vote in local elections.
He said that his colleagues have also discussed and analyzed this issue.
"In the next few weeks, the bill will indeed come to the Riigikogu, and then it will depend on our partners in Toompea whether the Social Democrats will allow us to promote it. We believe it is very important, and we could adopt this amendment to the law on local government elections," Pere said.
The leader of the Tallinn branch of the Homeland party, Riina Solman, emphasized that it is important for her political force to root out Russian influence in Tallinn by the next local elections.
Estonia pursues tough policy towards Russia
Recently, during a discussion on the use of frozen Russian assets, Estonia proposed that all assets, not just interest income, be directed towards the defense of Ukraine.
Estonia also announced the transfer of a military aid package to Ukraine worth 20 million euros.
On the same day, the Estonian government decided to terminate the Estonian-Russian agreement on legal assistance and legal relations in civil, family, and criminal matters.
