Erdogan says Türkiye supports return of Ukrainian territories, including Crimea
Türkiye supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Ankara also backs the return of occupied territories, including Crimea, according to the chief adviser to the President of Türkiye, Yalcin Topcu.
The statement was made during Topcu's meeting with Nariman Dzhelyal, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
"Türkiye, which supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence, also consistently advocates on every platform for the return of occupied territories, including Crimea, as mandated by international law. Türkiye is committed to ending the ongoing occupation and war in Ukraine, as well as in Gaza and Lebanon, actively contributing to regional and global peace for the future of all humanity," he said.
Topcu also emphasized that Türkiye seeks an end to the ongoing occupation and war in Ukraine, as well as the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
During his visit to Türkiye, Dzhelyal spoke about the situation in Russian-occupied Crimea, the repression of Crimean Tatars, and crimes committed by Russian forces. This was Dzhelyal's first visit to Türkiye since his release from Russian captivity.
At the meeting, both sides expressed hope that Türkiye, particularly through President Erdoğan, would help secure the release of Crimean Tatars and other Ukrainians from Russian captivity.
Türkiye’s stance on war
Türkiye has repeatedly affirmed its support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, Ankara has continued its economic cooperation with Russia during the war in Ukraine.
Türkiye has also expressed its willingness to mediate and assist in prisoner exchanges, urging both Ukraine and Russia to engage in negotiations.
