Erdoğan to present his plan for freezing war in Ukraine at G20, media reports
President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, plans to present his proposal for freezing the war in Ukraine during the G20 summit. The plan also includes delaying discussions about Ukraine's NATO membership, Bloomberg reports.
According to the media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula centers around securing a clear pathway to NATO membership and guarantees for protection before accession.
Sources say that Erdoğan's plan will suggest that Ukraine postpone NATO membership discussions for at least 10 years as a concession to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Turkish proposal would also include establishing a demilitarized zone in the east of Ukraine, deploying international forces in the area, and providing military guarantees for Kyiv as compensation for remaining outside of NATO.
Unnamed Turkish officials acknowledged that Kyiv would find such a proposal problematic but argued that it could secure a stable ceasefire. The plan might appeal to some of Ukraine's allies concerned about the risk of direct conflict between NATO and Russia if Ukraine joins the alliance.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that G20 leaders are struggling to agree on a final statement following a massive Russian airstrike on Ukraine on November 17.
