The streaming platform Peacock has decided not to renew the spy series Ponies, which premiered in early 2026. Despite receiving a large number of positive reviews from critics and featuring Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, the project ended after just one season, according to THR.

Spy story of the 1970s

The series is set in the capital of the former USSR in 1977. At the center of the plot are two employees of the American embassy, Bee and Twyla, whom intelligence services considered to be of no value for espionage. Because of this, they were given the nickname “Ponies.”

After the mysterious deaths of their husbands, the heroines find themselves in a world of spy intrigue and begin working with the CIA. Together, they try to uncover a dangerous conspiracy filled with many secrets.

The main roles in the series were played by Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson, known to viewers from the popular series “The White Lotus.”

High ratings did not guarantee success

Although critics warmly received the new release, it was not enough for renewal. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series received 94% positive reviews, but failed to attract a sufficient number of viewers. After its premiere, “Ponies” did not enter Nielsen’s rankings of the most popular projects, which may have influenced the streaming platform’s decision.

According to available data circulating in Western media, the creators had not even begun work on the script for a second season, as the future of the series was uncertain from the very beginning. At the same time, the final episode left several storylines open and hinted at a possible continuation of the story.
