American billionaire Elon Musk refused to allow attorneys who flew to Washington to conduct a sworn deposition in the case regarding manipulation during the purchase of Twitter shares, according to Bloomberg.

The lawsuit was filed by investors who claim that Elon Musk's repeated attempts to buy Twitter Inc. in 2022 were an effort to manipulate the company's stock value.

In documents filed, California lawyers for the plaintiffs noted that Musk’s attorney informed them of his absence just 20 minutes after the scheduled deposition time on April 3. According to the lawyers, despite the court’s ruling with a set deposition date, “this was all for naught,” and it is currently difficult for them to agree on a new date.

Musk is currently advising President Donald Trump on government measures to cut spending, although he plans to step down from this role soon. He is facing numerous lawsuits related to his companies and personal investments.

Musk's attorney, Alex Spiro, and biographer Walter Isaacson are also avoiding a deposition in a securities fraud case involving investors. Spiro has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Musk’s Twitter purchase

Elon Musk signed a deal to purchase the social media platform Twitter for $44 billion on April 25, 2022.

In September, Musk missed a court-ordered testimony in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding his acquisition of Twitter. However, the judge declined to impose sanctions on the billionaire after his attorney explained that Musk had to be present at a SpaceX rocket launch in Florida and offered to reimburse the agency for the flight costs of his attorneys, who flew to Los Angeles to depose Musk.

Musk eventually met with SEC lawyers in October, and in January, the agency filed a lawsuit against him.

Recently, the billionaire made headlines for another controversial statement - he did not like being compared to a simple "car assembler" to his work.
