Electricity cut off in Kyiv and region due to missile strike: 250 thousand consumers affected
Due to a massive rocket attack, there is damage to the Ukrenergo and regional power distribution networks in Kyiv and the surrounding areas. Over 250,000 consumers are without power, according to the company's press service.
According to the press service, all power outages are related to military actions, and there are no plans for scheduled disconnections.
"Recovery work will begin immediately after assessing the extent of the damage by repair teams from Ukrenergo and regional power distribution companies," the statement said.
Rocket strike on Kyiv
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA), on January 2, the Russian army launched a second consecutive strike using a large arsenal of aerial weapons.
The air raid alarm lasted almost 6 hours in total. Initially, the enemy launched about a dozen barrage-type Shahed missiles at the capital.
Following them, over a dozen Tu-95MS strategic bombers launched groups and waves of cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh555X-55. Simultaneous with the missile attack on Kyiv, over ten MiG-31K aircraft launched aeroballistic missiles, such as Kh-47M2 Kinzhal.
With the efforts and means of air defense, all Shahed UAVs and over 60 missiles Kh-101/Kh555X-55 and a dozen Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles were destroyed (the Air Force will provide the final type and quantity), as reported by the KCMA.
"But due to such a massive missile attack in the capital, unfortunately, there are destroyed residential buildings and damage to infrastructure. There are casualties—especially dire consequences in the Solomianskyi district. Fires in multi-story residential buildings have been recorded there. The fire trapped people on the upper floors. The State Emergency Service conducted the unlocking and evacuation of people. Preliminarily, more than 25 injured have been identified," the statement said.
Also, the information about the death of one person, an 86-year-old woman, has been confirmed. She was evacuated from a building in the Solomianskyi district and died in an ambulance.
Consequences of the missile attack in the districts:
- In the Desnianskyi district, there is reportedly a fire at a supermarket;
- In the Darnytskyi district, non-residential premises are damaged;
- In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on open territory;
- In the Pecherskyi district, debris fell on the roof of a 9-story residential building, on another multi-story building, and a private house;
- In the Obolonskyi district, there is a fire in a residential building, and debris fell on the territory of non-residential buildings and warehouses;
- In the Sviatoshynskyi district, debris fell on non-residential buildings;
- In the Podilskyi district, there is a fire in the market area; a gas pipe is damaged, water supply mains are damaged, and about 6 cars are on fire; also, debris fell on non-residential buildings. There is a possible fire in a residential building. The information is being verified;
- Shevchenkivskyi district – debris fell on open territory.
