Preparations for presidential elections in Syria could take up to four years. To begin with, it will take several years to write a constitution, reports Reuters.

The de facto leader of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, said that the development of a new constitution could take up to three years. He also said that it would take about a year for Syrians to see dramatic changes.

In addition, according to al-Sharaa, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, which took part in the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, will be dissolved at the national dialogue conference.

The new Syrian leader also hopes that the US administration will lift the sanctions previously imposed on Syria because of the Assad regime.

The fall of the Assad regime

A few weeks ago, rebels overthrew the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Bashar al-Assad himself fled to Russia. It should be noted that Moscow claimed that the dictator allegedly voluntarily handed over power.

Instead, against the backdrop of the events in Syria, Russia is withdrawing its ships from naval bases and transferring the remains of its weapons from bases, including in Lebanon.

Ukraine is currently not ruling out the resumption of diplomatic relations with the new Syrian government.

In particular, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had sent 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria.
