US Vice-President JD Vance believes that the best way to protect Ukraine from a new Russian invasion is to ensure that the United States has a financial interest in Ukraine's future, The Guardian reports.

"If you want real security guarantees, if you want to actually ensure that Vladimir Putin does not invade Ukraine again, the very best security guarantee is to give Americans economic upside in the future of Ukraine," Vance said.

In his opinion, such guarantees are far better "than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years."

"What is the actual plan here? You can’t just fund the war forever. The American people won’t stand for that," the US Vice-President stated.

Recently, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that, as of now, the US does not see Ukraine as a NATO member.

Earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of undermining US efforts on peace talks. In addition, Trump’s team commented on whether they want change in Ukraine's leadership.

On February 28, during a conversation between Zelenskyy, Trump, and US Vice-President JD Vance, a dispute broke out over the war and Ukraine's alleged "ingratitude."
