Easy to prepare: Which dish promotes weight loss and is good for gut
Parents used to tell us when we were kids that soup is healthy and should be included in our diet. It turns out that this dish has many health benefits and can even help with weight loss, the website Huffpost reports.
Soup helps maintain healthy weight
In a traditional three-course meal, soup comes first to satisfy hunger, allowing us to enjoy smaller portions.
Dietitian Joyce Handley explained that if you are struggling with excess weight, adding soup to your menu is a good strategy.
"If you're looking to reduce your calorie intake, foods and dishes with a high water content, such as vegetables, fruits, salads, and soups, are a great way to curb hunger," added the expert.
According to dietitian Caroline O'Neill, vegetable soup is very beneficial for health. They can contain onions and garlic, beans, peas, zucchini, or pumpkin.
Benefits for gut microbiome
If you want to lose weight, eat more beans. Soups made with white beans, leafy kale, and lentil vegetable soups are among the most beneficial for the gut.
Beans are low in calories and fat but high in protein and fiber.
Regular consumption of fiber-rich soups can support gut microbes and help you achieve your weight loss goals.
Soups are rich in vitamins
Most soups contain vitamins A, B, E, and various minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and phosphorus. They improve the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Parsley is often added to soups, and it’s a source of ascorbic acid, which helps boost immunity. Parsley also contains vitamin K, which is needed for the body to absorb calcium and improve blood clotting.
It’s important to note that broccoli soup contains a special organic compound called sulforaphane, which helps prevent the development of colorectal and breast cancer.
When to eat soup
It’s best to eat soup at lunch because hearty dishes contain complex carbohydrates that take longer to digest. That’s why it's better to have them during the day.
In addition, these carbohydrates provide a gradual release of energy, which the body needs in the afternoon.
