Duda jokes about asking Ukraine not to finish off retreating Russian army, Zelenskyy says 'line may be busy'
Polish President Andrzej Duda joked that he would ask Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to finish off Russian soldiers who flee from Ukrainian soil, as he met with the Ukrainian leader in Kyiv on Ukraine's Independence Day,
Duda notes that when someone attacks someone, they will be beaten and suffer losses. And those who do not take this into account are foolish.
“If the Russian military is finally allowed to return home and they start to leave Ukraine, if it happens that the Ukrainian army will then attack, then I will be the first to call President Zelenskyy and say: 'Do not bomb them, they are leaving.' I can promise this to Russian soldiers,” Duda said.
President Zelenskyy replied that "the line may be busy".
What else Duda said about the war
During his speech, Andrzej Duda expressed hope that Russia's war against Ukraine would soon end and that the “forces of freedom” would win.
“Although today Ukraine is fighting the Russian aggressor, fighting for its independence, I am convinced that the war will soon end with the victory of the forces of freedom over the tyranny. Then, out of the darkness of war, on the ruins and scorched territories, a new world will begin to forge,” the Polish president said.
He also recalled that Poland was the first country in the world to officially recognize Ukraine's independence in 1991.
