Dubai has unveiled an extraordinary piece of jewelry: a pair of gold earrings called Mayura Sahasra, which has entered the Guinness World Records in two categories. The 22-karat gold piece of jewelry has been recognized as both the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of earrings in the world.

Who created the jewelry?

The earrings were created by Joyalukkas Jewellery. The total weight of the gold used in the pair is 16.514 kg. They measure 1.215 meters in length and 68.2 centimeters in diameter.

The record for the heaviest pair of gold earrings was officially confirmed on October 12, 2026, and the piece was unveiled to the public on October 24.

The name Mayura Sahasra translates as A Thousand Peacocks. The design is inspired by the peacock, a bird associated with beauty and grace in Indian culture.

The artisans combined peacock-feather motifs with the traditional jhumka design — bell-shaped earrings commonly found in Indian jewelry traditions.

How long did it take to create the earrings?

A team of 55 artisans worked on the jewelry for several months. In total, they spent 5,840 hours crafting the earrings and refining their intricate decorative details.

The unveiling took place at the Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas boutique in the Dubai Gold District. The earrings will remain on permanent display there, allowing both residents and tourists to see them.

According to company representatives, the creation is intended to showcase the craftsmanship of Indian jewelers and pay tribute to Dubai, which is known as one of the world’s leading gold-trading hubs. The earrings were designed as an exhibition piece rather than an item for sale.
