Yaroslavl in Russia was attacked by unidentified drones during the night of December 12. Locals reported on social media that an oil refinery was hit, according to Russian media.
Footage shows flames, fire, and thick black smoke.
One social media account reported that around seven explosions were heard over Yaroslavl. Smoke was seen over one of the districts, and an unusual humming sound could also be heard in the sky.
Locals reported that a total of 5–7 explosions were heard over the city, along with the sound of an engine in the sky. Flashes were visible over some districts.
It has been reported that drone attacks on the city have been ongoing for a second day.
An air-raid alert was in effect in Smolensk, Russia, for an extended period, having been declared since the evening. It is unclear whether this is related to the drone attack or whether the thermal power plant was actually hit, although preliminary reports suggested this.
The Syzran oil refinery in the Saratov region completely ceased operations following strikes by Ukrainian strike drones during the night of December 5.
It was also reported that on the night of December 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful strike on Russian targets. Ukrainian drones hit the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant and, once again, the Ryazan oil refinery.
