On the night of December 4, Russians reported explosions in the city of Oryol and in Russia’s Stavropol Krai. In one of the cities, unknown drones reportedly attacked a chemical plant, according to Russian and monitoring Telegram channels.
At around 2 a.m. Kyiv time, the SHOT channel reported that about 10 explosions were heard over Oryol within half an hour.
“(From the loud sounds) the windows almost flew out,” residents wrote.
At the same time, a video allegedly from Oryol circulated on social media, capturing the sound of an explosion. It is still unclear what exactly was targeted by the unknown drones.
At the same time, social media reports indicated that explosions occurred in Nevinnomyssk in Russia’s Stavropol Krai. Russians counted at least six loud blasts.
A little later, monitoring channels reported that, preliminarily, the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant was hit. Judging by the footage, a fire broke out in the area of the facility.
This plant is considered one of Russia’s largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers and ammonia, as well as raw materials for explosives.
“Main products manufactured include ammonia, urea, melamine, ammonium nitrate, liquid nitrogen fertilizers (UAN-32), complex mineral fertilizers, acetic acid, and vinyl acetate,” one social media channel reported.
No official comments have been made regarding any of the incidents so far.
Ukrainian forces struck an explosives‑producing plant
On the night of June 14, 2025, Russians also reported explosions in Russia’s Stavropol Krai.
Later that day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian forces had attacked the Nevinnomyssk plant - one of the key producers of basic components for explosives, ammunition, and rocket fuel.
The department added that this enterprise is involved in supporting Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
