'Drill, baby, drill.' Trump declares energy emergency
In his inaugural speech, Trump declared a state of emergency in the energy sector in the United States.
" I will also declare a national energy emergency. Drill, baby, drill," Trump said.
The president added that he would "end the Green New Deal" and revoke the mandate on electric vehicles. According to him, this is necessary to save the US automobile industry.
Trump noted that by doing so, he would fulfill the "sacred pledge" he made to American automakers.
It is worth mentioning that "Drill, baby, drill" is a slogan first used by Republican and former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele. The slogan expressed support for increased oil and gas drilling.
It became more popular after being used by Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin during the vice-presidential debates.
Biden's ban
Previously, Joe Biden had banned oil and gas drilling on more than 625 million acres of coastal waters.
Following this decision, Trump criticized the move and promised to immediately revoke the ban.
