Which dried fruit is super healthy?
The red Chinese date, also known as jujube, belongs to the buckthorn family and is related to sweet buckthorn. Its fruits are known to help relieve hangovers and reduce alcohol cravings.
Jujube fruits have been consumed and used in traditional medicine in Asia for thousands of years. There are varieties with round and pear-shaped fruits, which can range in size from a cherry to a large plum. Jujubes offer valuable health benefits, making them a great addition to your daily diet.
Red dates are known for their healing properties and are even available in powdered form as a dietary supplement. This is due to their high nutritional value, including valuable micronutrients and vitamins, as well as their supportive effects on the body.
Red dates are rich in beneficial compounds, including water-soluble fiber such as polysaccharides. When they come into contact with water, they expand and form a protective and nourishing gel that supports the digestive system.
In traditional Chinese medicine, jujube fruits were particularly valued for their calming properties, nourishing the blood, and strengthening the spleen and stomach.
Jujube fruits are also rich in antioxidants, such as flavonoids and triterpenes.
The most common polysaccharides in Chinese dates have high biological activity and low toxicity, exhibiting anticancer, hypolipidemic, and liver-protective properties.
Triterpenes also have this liver-protective effect. Like the previously mentioned compounds, phenolic acids also have potential therapeutic effects for liver damage and skin protection.
Another important group of antioxidants in jujube fruits are alkaloids, which have antiviral and antibacterial effects and suppress the neurotoxic impact of compounds on the brain.
Chinese dates are beneficial for stress, dementia, digestive issues, heavy metal poisoning, intestinal inflammation, and constipation. They support the immune system, and in addition to the polysaccharides mentioned, lignans play an important role in increasing the number of immune cells.

How to eat red dates?
Red dates can be eaten as dried fruit for a snack, or added to desserts, porridge, yogurt, as well as fruit and savory salads, and meat dishes.
Jujube is also added to soups and tea, which is one of the most popular ways to consume it, although some people even add the fruit to coffee. There is also tea made from the fruits themselves, which is particularly recommended for constipation. The berry juice can be soaked in water, mixed, and then used as a healthy sweetener. Common fruit combinations in dishes include goji berries, citrus fruits, ginger, cinnamon, coconut, nuts, and chocolate.
