However, experts warn that air fryers are not suitable for all foods. Some dishes can turn out poorly or even pose a hazard.

Foods to avoid in an air fryer

Battered dishes

Good Food experts explain that recipes with liquid batter, such as fried chicken, create a mess in the basket. The hot air causes the batter to splatter since there isn’t enough oil to set it quickly. The batter drips down and can burn.

Saucy dishes

Hearty meals like chili con carne or Bolognese are better cooked on the stove. Liquid sauces aren’t meant for circulating hot air and can damage the appliance or ruin the flavor.

Popcorn

This popular snack is also unsuitable for air fryers. Most models don’t reach the temperature needed for the kernels to pop. Additionally, the kernels can get stuck in the heating element, increasing the risk of short circuits or fire.

Broccoli
