The world of Ukrainian cinema doesn't stand still and is preparing exciting premieres for us. Screenings of intriguing films are already scheduled for fall and summer, films that are worth knowing about now. Here are three films whose premieres should not be missed.
Three
The film's premiere is scheduled for August 21. This production combines an adventure action movie with a classic western, incorporating the best elements of both genres. Key scenes were filmed in Starokostiantyniv, a symbolic location for Ukraine during the full-scale invasion.
The story occurs during Ukraine's War of Independence from 1917 to 1921. Two rogue fighters from Makhno's forces set up an ambush to capture a Red Army convoy transporting a large sum of money. The robbery does not go according to plan, and along with the money, they also take a prisoner—an armored vehicle commander. There’s no turning back, and three very different men, miraculously surviving the attack, go from sworn enemies to brothers-in-arms in the fight against the Red Plague.
Parent-Teacher Meeting
The film premieres on October 30. After the success of "HOA Meeting", United Heroes Group and "Mamakhykhotala" once again take on a "sacred" topic—"Parent-Teacher Meeting", which spirals into heated debates, exposes gaps in upbringing, and unveils family secrets no one could have imagined.
This time, familiar characters meet again, but now at school desks, just before Halloween, to discuss the results of the school president elections. Suspicions of vote rigging, mutual accusations of bribery, populist slogans, bullying, and blackmail—all tactics are on the table. Because when it comes to power, even at school, adults lose their minds faster than children.
U Are the Universe
Pavlo Ostrikov’s film will hit theaters on November 20. It is one of the most ambitious productions in modern Ukrainian cinema. Five residential modules were built for the film, spacecraft and interior concepts were developed, and a fully functional robot was created.
At the heart of the plot is Andriy, a Ukrainian space trucker transporting nuclear waste from Earth to a moon of Jupiter. After a sudden explosion of Earth, whose fragments destroy everything around, Andriy becomes the last human in the Universe. But then, unexpectedly, he receives a signal from a Frenchwoman named Catherine, who needs help.
