Doctor names dietary habits to reduce cancer risk
Cancer is a serious and deadly disease. Consuming more healthy food and reducing the intake of harmful products can help protect you from this ailment, writes Express citing a doctor.
Doctor Sunni Patel stated that while there is no single product that can guarantee cancer prevention, healthy eating will undoubtedly help reduce the risk of its development.
Dietary habits for cancer prevention
Drink green tea
Rich in antioxidants known as catechins, green tea may provide protective action against cancer by neutralizing harmful molecules called free radicals that can damage DNA and other cellular components.
Eat garlic and onion
Onions and garlic may reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, especially those occurring in the digestive tract. Moreover, these vegetables can be an inexpensive addition to many dishes.
Include tomatoes in your diet
Tomatoes are a good source of lycopene, an antioxidant that may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
Enjoy low-fat dairy or plant-based dairy products
Consuming low-fat or plant-based dairy products may decrease the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
Limit processed and red meat
High consumption of processed and red meat is associated with a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer. Consume other sources of lean protein, such as poultry and fish.
"If you eat red meat, do so in moderation," noted Patel. She said it is recommended to consume "70 grams per day or less."
Limit sugary and highly processed foods
The doctor explained that high consumption of sugar and highly processed products can become a dangerous basis for cancer.
Stay hydrated
Doctor Patel shared that this simple but important advice could help maintain overall health.
Drink less alcohol
According to her, you should also reduce alcohol consumption, as excessive alcohol intake is associated with an increased risk of developing certain types of cancer, including breast and liver cancer.
