Direct lightning hit on Kyiv skyscraper captured on camera

During a storm in Kyiv, lightning struck directly into a multi-story residential building. Eyewitnesses recorded the moment on video and shared it on social media. The lightning strike hit a high-rise in the Obolonskyi district of the capital.
We contacted the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for comment. The SES stated that they had not received any emergency calls about the lightning strike.
On May 29, Kyiv and the surrounding region were hit by severe weather. The capital experienced a thunderstorm, heavy rain, and hail, all accompanied by strong gusty winds.
In particular, in Irpin, Kyiv region, a storm knocked over a tree that fell directly onto a parked car. The incident was caught on video and spread across social media.
Meteorologists warn that the bad weather may continue throughout the day. Some streets in Kyiv and the region have already been reported as flooded.
Municipal services are working to eliminate the storm's consequences. Residents are urged to stay indoors unless necessary, avoid parking cars under trees and poles, and follow updates from emergency services.
In light of the storm, Kyiv region police have also addressed the public. Drivers are advised to:
- Observe speed limits, safe distances, and intervals
- Avoid sharp maneuvers
- Reduce speed significantly near pedestrian crossings and educational institutions
- Do not leave vehicles under trees, billboards, or similar structures.
Pedestrians are also urged to:
- Be cautious and alert when outside
- crossroads only at designated pedestrian crossings
- never run out suddenly into the street
- If possible, avoid walking under large trees, power lines, and advertising boards
- Use reflective elements during nighttime or in low visibility conditions.
