Denmark hands over first 10 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine - More tanks on the way
The first 10 Leopard 1 tanks donated by Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands have arrived in Ukraine, according to The Guardian.
In February, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands announced they would transfer 100 German-made tanks to Ukraine in the "coming months."
"The first 10 Leopard 1 tanks donated by Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands have arrived in Ukraine, and more are on their way," said the Danish Armed Forces.
Danish military personnel are training Ukrainian soldiers in Germany to operate these tanks.
"I have no doubt that it will help them win the defense battle they are fighting right now," said artillery commander Arpe Nielsen.
Leopard 1 for Ukraine
In May of this year, Denmark's Acting Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, announced the joint transfer of 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine in collaboration with Germany.
These tanks have a 105mm gun and an MG3 7.62mm machine gun. Until the 1980s, the Leopard 1 was considered Germany's main battle tank.
The 1A5 variant is the latest serial model, featuring a computerized fire control system, the Krupp-Atlas Electronik EMES 18, with a Carl Zeiss thermal sight developed based on the system used in the modern Leopard 2 tank.
