Democrats have no Plan B in case Biden refuses second term - Reuters
The Democratic Party of the United States has not prepared a Plan B in case the incumbent president, Joe Biden, does not participate in the upcoming presidential elections, writes Reuters.
According to the article, Biden intends to run for a second term, despite a decline in his own ratings. Supporters of the president are confident that the party does not need a backup plan to defeat the potential Republican candidate, Donald Trump, whom Biden surpassed in the 2020 elections.
"There is no Plan B. If he were ... suddenly not to run, everyone you know would run. The VP (Vice President) scares no one," explained one high-ranking Democrat.
If Biden does decide to withdraw from the elections during the determination of the Democratic candidate next year (primaries), other candidates could participate, depending on the document submission requirements of the states.
Such a scenario could lead to an intra-party war, according to journalists.
Presidential elections in the United States
It is worth noting that the United States will hold presidential elections in 2024. According to forecasts, the main Democratic candidate will be the incumbent American leader, Joe Biden, and for the Republicans, former head of state Donald Trump.
While Trump already has a significant number of competitors in the primaries, Biden currently has only one opponent - Congressman Dean Phillips.
Republicans are set to announce their candidate on July 15, and Democrats on August 19. After that, debates and campaigning will begin in the fall.
Votes must be officially counted by January 6, 2025, with the inauguration scheduled for January 20.
