The death toll from a terrorist attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney on December 14 has risen sharply, with authorities reporting 15 civilians killed, including a child, and 40 others hospitalized with injuries, reports Sky News.

Police reported that the total death toll from the Bondi Beach shooting has risen to 16. The victims include a 10-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man, both of whom died in the hospital. Thirteen others were killed at the scene, and the 16th death was one of the attackers involved in the assault on the Hanukkah celebration.

A total of 42 people were taken to hospitals following the attack, two of whom later died. Of the 40 currently hospitalized, five are in critical condition, while the others are in serious or moderate condition.

Authorities reported that the attackers were men aged 24 and 50. The 50-year-old was killed at the scene by concentrated police fire. The 24-year-old was seriously wounded and remains hospitalized in critical condition. The attackers exchanged gunfire with police, and two officers also suffered gunshot wounds.
