A person injured in the January 8 shelling near a production facility in Zaporizhzhia has died in the hospital, raising the death toll to 14, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Ivan Fedorov, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

"Unfortunately, after the shelling near the production facility in early January, one person died in the hospital yesterday. Doctors fought for their lives for nearly two weeks, but the number of victims has now increased," Fedorov said.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration stated that efforts to address the aftermath of the recent Zaporizhzhia attacks are still underway. Fedorov added that 60 individuals remain hospitalized in both Zaporizhzhia and the region. Since September 20, there has been a significant increase in killed victims due to shelling in the area.

"The number of killed victims has risen significantly since September 20, after the enemy began massive strikes on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia region. A total of 69 people have been killed in such strikes since then," Fedorov explained.

January 8 shelling in Zaporizhzhia

On Wednesday, January 8, the Russian military launched an airstrike on Zaporizhzhia, resulting in two explosions in the city.

Interestingly, Russian state propaganda reacted swiftly to their own attack using guided aerial bombs on Zaporizhzhia, immediately blaming Ukrainian air defense systems for the strike.

In a comment to RBC-Ukraine, Fedorov noted the high number of casualties was partly due to the timing of the attack, which occurred as local workers were leaving their shifts and heading home.
